PRS: A one-stop shop for all your construction, health-care and hospitality needs

PRS Group is one of the leading construction companies from Kerala providing outstanding construction services to valuable customers since 1950. Headquartered in Thiruvanathapuram, the Group was founded by the farsighted visionary late P Ratnaswamy who himself was a civil engineer. R Murugan (son of the founder) the present CEO and chairman ably assisted by his son Sabari Rathen the executive director, both civil engineers head the PRS Group. "We have constructed several multi storied buildings mainly in the capital city of Thiruvanathapuram. For four generations we have been providing distinctive and acclaimed construction services for our clients and the community that has stood the test of time, with our civil engineering and construction tradition dating back to the year 1933 when my great grandfather late S Perumal Pillai was awarded the construction contract of the Legislative Assembly Hall of the then Travancore state by the then Maharaja of Travancore. Sir C P Ramaswamy Iyer, the Dewan of Travancore, inaugurated the prestigious project in the year 1939. Some of our other major projects include South block of Secretariat, Reserve Bank of India, Regional Cancer Centre, Co-bank Towers and in the housing PRS Sangeeth Apartments, PRS Court, PRS Enclave, PRS Grace and so forth. We have also diversified into Health care, Education and Hospitality industry", says Mr. Sabari Rathen.

Presently, they have 2 projects under construction, PRS Shangrila and PRS Lakeville. PRS Shangrila is a 25 Apartments building and Lakeville, over looking the Akkulam Lake is a multi-crore project to be completed in two phases of 71 and 73 apartments each. "This is spread over four acres of prime land in Thiruvanathapuram town with all amenities for a comfortable community living. We may even plan service apartments here in due course of time", he added.

In the year 1986, the group diversified into healthcare with the opening of PRS Hospital. This hospital, which started with three departments, is now a 250-bedded hospital and has 23 departments with all kinds of modern treatment facilities. "We added the cardiology department in 1990 and were awarded the ISO 9001-2000 certificate by BVQI in 2002. Medical Tourism is an area that we look into and we shall be penetrating into that segment very shortly. PRS Nursing College and Cancer Treatment Centre is also on the go", Sabari added.

With the opening of Swagath Holiday Resort in the internationally renowned Kovalam Beach, PRS formally announced its intentions of getting into the tourism field. The company constructed this property in 1994 with 18 rooms and later increased the inventory to 28. Located at the start of the Hawa Beach in Kovalam, Swagath is one of the oldest resorts here. The property presently has 28 cozy rooms with all amenities including 24 hr hot and cold water, safe deposit locker, refrigerator, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, STD/ISD dialing, swimming pool, conference hall that can accommodate 200 guests etc. "One of the main attractions of the place is our sea view rooftop restaurant. The restaurant serves Tandoor and seafood cuisines made in authentic Continental, Kerala, Chinese and North Indian preparations", said V Unnikrishnan, general manager of the resort. At Punanrjani, the resort’s ayurvedic centre one can experience all traditional ayurvedic treatment under the supervision of Dr M S Baiju, BAMS.

Finally in 2008, the group fulfilled its vision of service to all by venturing into the education sector by taking over Mary Matha College of Engg and Technology, one of the leading engineering colleges in the private sector in Kerala, affiliated to the University of Kerala and approved by AICTE, New Delhi. The college offers engineering degree programmes in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics and Civil Engineering and has plans to start PG, MBA and MCA courses next year. With innovative teaching methodology, proficient and experienced faculty, state-of-the-art infrastructure and an unfettered environment to spur intellectual activity, the college encourages students in co-curricular activities, as well as in sports along with academic studies.
