Fort House: A fascinating blend of cultures

Fort House is a middle priced tourist hotel and waterfront restaurant located in the old town of Fort Cochin with its fascinating blend of cultures. Portuguese, Arab, Jewish, Dutch, and British influences can still be felt in the town's architecture, customs and cuisine. Fort House has a lush tropical garden and stunning views over the entrance of Kochi harbour.

The family-run hotel is designed in the architecture characteristic of Kerala. All 18 rooms are comfortably spacious and equipped with air-conditioning, ceiling fans and attached bathrooms. After a recent expansion of the hotel's facilities, Fort House can now accommodate group tourism. At present, the hotel's facilities are being further upgraded, making it even more comfortable and attractive for its guests.

Far removed from the sterility of air-conditioned business restaurants, Fort House restaurant enjoys a vibrant waterfront view of ships and fishing boats passing by. It specializes on seafood and serves a selection of dishes particularly characteristic for the Latin Christian cuisine in Kerala. For those guests who prefer vegetarian food, Fort House offers a number of traditional dishes including Thali meals.

Among the other facilities of the hotel is an Ayurveda treatment centre that is run in cooperation with Nagarjuna, Kerala's most reputed Ayurvedic group. The hotel is in walking distance from the main tourist attractions of Fort Cochin, such as the Old Synagogue, Dutch Palace and the antique market of Mattancherry.
