Vembanad House: Experience the aesthetics

The Vembanad House, a backwater homestay in Muhamma, Alappuzha is promoted by Balakrishnan and Ms Sandhya Balakrishnan. Predominantly an exporter of seafood, Balakrishnan is gradually shifting his focus into hospitality and this is his maiden venture; the husband-wife duo belong to the ancient Mayithara family of Alappuzha.

In the management of the Vembanad House, Balakrishnan is ably assisted by his wife Sandhya . This property, which is well past its platinum jubilee, is an ancient house and is clearly one of the finest specimens of Kerala's traditional architecture. Built in an expansive area of 10.5 acres, the property has an amazing waterfront of over 1000 metres and the view from each of the four bedrooms is simply breathtaking. Apart from a very spacious courtyard and lobby, all the bedrooms boast of a private balcony from where one can view stillness of the Vembanad Lake.

As you start spending your days here, you can while away your time fishing or simply walk along the banks of the Vembanad Lake, go boating using the traditional snake boat and for the fitness freaks, swimming in the Vembanad Lake can be quite an invigorating experience. Apart from this one can meditate sitting in the podium overlooking the backwaters. The other activities here include a local village tour, visit to the local temples, boat ride, houseboat ride at the Vembanad Lake, shopping and trip to the local beach. Yoga classes, elephant ride and Ayurveda rejuvenation therapy are also arranged on request.
