Sustainable Heritage

Category : Best Heritage Hotel Brand
Winner : WelcomHeritage

Rakesh Mathur
President, WelcomHeritage

This award recognises what we have achieved in terms of growth. By being a part of ITC Hotels, we have received immense support. I feel this award will propel the industry to move forward, to make a quantum change in growth patterns.

WelcomHeritage is not just a heritage hotel company, but a heritage tourism company that creates an experience that goes beyond a mere destination and a hotel. I read a beautiful quote today, "You should leave a destination richer than what you find it" and I think as a hotel company that is what we stand for - safe, honourable tourism practices to promote the country's national heritage. It is this belief that has encouraged us to add a large number of jungle lodges, located at India's various wildlife sanctuaries to existing heritage destinations.

There is a need to make the segment financially productive and sustainable. For this it is important to maintain and sustain the old style and heritage but add on comforts and modern amenities. This can entail adding more rooms, yet, maintaining the architectural style.

As a brand, we endeavour to constantly innovate and move into niche segments. Take for instance, the latest addition to our portfolio, the chain's 52nd property, WelcomHeritage, Pragati Resorts in Hyderabad. It is a unique herbal resort, which will focus on natural herbal cures. It has over 600 varieties of herbs, as it is a part of our belief that nature and national parks are part of India's heritage.
