ATDC: Bringing you closer to the heart of Alleppey
Alleppey
Tourism Development Co-operative Society (ATDC), with its interest and passion
in promoting tourism, offers many choices for insightful travellers through
eco-friendly resorts, deluxe houseboats and precise travel assistance. Rediscover
Alleppey, one of the foremost backwater destinations in the world acclaimed
as the Venice of the East, with ATDC widely acclaimed for its relevant involvement
in the tourism sector. ATDC attends your specific needs and varied interests,
cruising off the beaten track.
In 1987 under the leadership of T G Reghu, a group of dedicated and enthusiastic
unemployed youths formed a co-operative society in the name ATDC, as the first
ever co-operative undertaking in tourism sector in Kerala. At that time, nothing
was specially arranged for tourists who really expected much from this dream
destination. T G Reghu, the secretary of ATDC says he noticed foreign tourists
travelled in ferryboats and country boats, what inspired him to start special
backwater cruise for them.
As a new exploration in 1987, ATDC embarked on conducted backwater cruise between
Alappuzha and Kollam. As an innovation in 1991, ATDC introduced the first Houseboat
in the backwaters as an ideal setting for full moon and half moon trips. ATDC
had the privilege and vision to convert the Kettuvallams into Houseboats with
basic facilities for short sightseeing trips. The ever-increasing demand from
the tourists forced the up gradation of Kettuvallams. ATDC now operates 20 well
furnished Houseboats out of the 250 Houseboats operating in Kerala.
Again to the customer satisfaction, they discovered backwater island resort
called Coir Village Lake Resort with strength of 25 independent a/c cottages.
Situated at Thrikunnapuzha, a serene island cradled between the backwaters of
Alappuzha and Kollam, Coir Village is truly the 'only Island Backwater Resort'
in this part of the world. Well-appointed independent cottages foster an absolute
natural setting congenial for rustic life. Together, all sorts of modern amenities
are thoughtfully included. All these cottages face the winding water on both
ends, bordered with swaying coconut trees. Other attractions include multi-cuisine
restaurant, Ayurvedic massage parlour, canoe rides and coir village visits.
Other resorts that characterize living in harmony with nature include Marari
Fishermen Village and the upcoming Pepper Village. The placid Marari beach in
Alleppey is not an exception. But there's something more to explore beyond those
usual figures. Marari Fishermen Village is tucked away amidst palm groves, 9
independent cottages at the village provide an environment to live in company
with nature. They have given much care to preserve the environment although
all species of cotemporary facilities are included. These cottages with en-suite
open-air bath spur the gentle wind to the indoors. Also experience the enriching
affair with seafood specialties as fresh as it can at their multi-cuisine restaurant.
