Welcome to the Oyster Opera at Padanna

Promoted by the national award-winning farmer G S Gul Mohammed, this is Kerala's only Theme Village with oyster farming as its theme. And it tempts visitors with a range of gourmet delicacies and hideouts totally cutoff from the hustle and bustle of the city. The theme village is unique with huts and restaurants exclusively for the guests, both on land, water and treetop, built with the locally available materials. The brackish water of Padanna and its surrounding villages are splendid and gifted with enormous natural beauty. The retreat is surrounded by a number of tiny palm-fringed islands.

Gul introduced the villagers to green mussel farming on coir in 1996 and now it's the lifeline of some 3,500 families along the coastline. Padanna is a typical rural village of ancient northern Kerala with people, culture, livelihood, food and everything, which has been preserved for decades with not much modernization-involved blend with mussel farming. It was indeed a success, but the significance lies in the time span, when Spain, the pioneer in green mussel farming take two year for a single crop he did it in just 75 days!!!

The brackish water of Padanna and its surrounding village is so splendid and gifted with enormous beauty. You can find a number of tiny islands densely wooded with coconut lagoons and mangroves; the vast beach and the estuary are also an attraction.

There are three landed cottages, one Float House and one Elevated House with well-equipped kitchens, two-beds, a verandah, toilet and bathroom. From a landed cottage, you are assured of experiencing the typical living style of very old rural people and be cradled by the smooth gentle waves in a Float House and finally you can have a totally different view of the whole scenario and the sunset in a different angle from the top of the Elevated House.
