Judith
Wilcox has been appointed as regional manager Indian subcontinent, Virgin
Atlantic Airways. Judith spent 7 years as general manager of Inflight Services
with responsibility for not only the menus from each country and airport
but also a portfolio of products ranging from toilet rolls to the campaign
and wine provided on board. In 1997, Judith moved into the commercial division
of the airline where her experience of working with the many overseas operations
was quickly put to use. She headed up the start of the airlines services
to the Caribbean simultaneously launching flights to Barbados. Antigua and
St Lucia in the autumn of 1998 despite Hurricane George's attempts to derail
the inaugural flights |
Edward M Liddy has
been elected to the Boeing board of directors, effective immediately. Liddy,
61, is current chairman of The Allstate Corporation, a position he has held
since January 1999. He served as chief executive officer of Allstate from
January 1999 to December 2006, president from January 1995 to May 2005,
and chief operating officer from August 1994 to January 1999. Prior to joining
Allstate, Liddy worked for Sears, Roebuck and Co from April 1988 until August
1994. Liddy is a member of the board of directors of 3M Company and The
Goldman Sachs Group Inc |
Emirates Airlines has made
several appointments. Bill McPherson has been appointed as its first
airport services manager at Newcastle airport.
Glasgow-born McPherson is returning to the UK to take up the post, having
been based in Dubai for the past seven years as Emirates' regional manager,
overseeing its operations at airports in the Far East, Australia and New
Zealand.
He will lead the newly-recruited ten-strong Emirates team at Newcastle airport,
which will be handling up to 550 passengers a day leaving and arriving on
Emirates' daily inbound and outbound service. Before joining Emirates in
2000, McPherson - who has spent his entire career working for airlines -
held airport management positions for both KLM and British Airways |
Sami Al-Janahi has
been appointed as new airport services manager at Alexandria's Borg Al-Arab
Airport (HBE) and will oversee the Emirates' ground handling activities
at the airport. Emirates Airport Services include key operating departments
like check-in and boarding; first and business class lounges; special services
for assisting disabled passengers and unaccompanied minors; baggage services;
and customer relations |
Emirates Airlines has also
appointed Majid Al Mualla as manager, UAE sales. Majid's appointment
closely follows a series of promotions and appointments announced by Emirates
to power its global expansion campaign. Previously posted as manager Sharjah
and Northern Emirates, Majid now progresses to supervise all of the seven
emirates. He enjoys a decade-long experience in commercials and sales, having
managed Emirates' operations in three regions including the Middle East,
Europe and the Indian sub-continent. As part of his new portfolio, Majid
will oversee sales for the airline's passenger
operations, channelled through its travel hubs in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah
and Ajman, and via almost 600 travel agencies in the country |
Delta
Air Lines has named Richard H Anderson as its chief executive to
succeed Gerald Grinstein, who announced his retirement in April; Anderson
has close ties to Northwest Airlines, where he spent 14 years as chief executive.
Anderson, age 52, has nearly 20 years of airline industry experience and
will become the eighth CEO in Delta's 78-year history.

addition to Anderson's appointment, the board of directors also announced
that chief financial officer Edward H Bastian will be promoted to
president and chief financial officer, reporting to Anderson |

has been appointed the Qantas group's new chief information officer.Ms Gordon
holds an Associate Diploma in Accounting from Bendigo TAFE and a Bachelor
of Business Degree in Information Technology from La Trobe University |
UAL Corporation, the holding
company whose primary subsidiary is United Airlines, has announced that
Grace M Puma has been named senior vice president - strategic sourcing
and chief procurement officer. Joining United from Kraft Foods, Puma will
lead United's global procurement team in building innovative sourcing strategies
and technologies that align with the company's efforts to improve its costs
and productivity while ensuring suppliers meet quality standards for products
and services and do so on a consistent basis |
Captain Werner Knorr
has been appointed head of flight operations at Deutsche Lufthansa AG, effective
September 1. As postholder flight operations, he will in future be responsible
for flight operations and thus for ensuring the validity of the Air Operator
Certificate vis-à-vis the Federal Aviation Agency (LBA) and the Federal
Ministry for Transport. Knorr will take over from Captain Jürgen
Raps, who will assume the position of executive vice president operations,
Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, on September 1. As
accountable manager, Jürgen Raps will be answerable to the European
Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In March 2007, Jürgen Raps was one of
the world's first four airline pilots to acquire a license to fly the Airbus
