Iskcon Bangalore to set up India Heritage Theme Park

Gayatri Vijaykumar - Bangalore

In a bid to enlighten people about the Vedic history of India, Iskcon Bangalore will construct a Krishna Lila theme park in Bangalore. It will be built with an investment of Rs 500 crore of which Rs 348 crore will be spent on construction.

According to Shri Chanchalapathi Das, vice president of Iskcon Bangalore and vice chairman of The India Heritage Foundation, the decision of setting up a theme park on the Vedic history of India was made in response to the increasing effects of globalisation on the Indian culture. "The park will provide a 3D story-telling experience and will be a dignified presentation of the concept of Indian Heritage," he said.

The park will be built on 28 acres of land provided by the government of Karnataka. Iskcon has also purchased 24 acres of land on which plans are on to construct a housing project. "The theme park project will be handled completely like a commercial project. We plan to use the revenue from the housing project to subsidise the theme park cost," explained Shri Chanchalapathi. Apart from that, Iskcon has also obtained permission from the National Highways Authority of India to construct a flyover which will connect the highway to the park.

The theme park, slated to be completed in 24-30 months, will be handled by The India Heritage Foundation set up by Iskcon. Plans are also on to provide accommodation to visitors. "It will take at least two days to see the whole park so we plan to provide accommodation. We are looking at school and college educational tours and have plans to build a large dormitory which would cater to 1,000 boys and girls," said Shri Chanchalapathi.
