Kanu Gohain gets 6-month extension as DGCA

The Prime Minister's office has approved a six-month extension to Director
General of Civil Aviation Kanu Gohain on the recommendation of minister of civil
aviation, according to reliable source. Gohain, who would have been off from
official duty from June 31, 2007 will now serve till December 31.
According to a senior official in the civil aviation ministry, it was initially
looking for an option of an IAS officer or a candidate from the civil aviation
ministry itself. The recruitment policy mentions that any IAS officer or Indian
Air Force officers of the rank of Air Marshall with a minimum of 12 years of
experience in aviation, flying, aircraft engineering or airworthiness, of which
a minimum of five years is in administration and finance disciplines, is eligible
for the DGCA post.
