After consolidating its position as arguably the leading ticketing consolidator of the country, Akbar Travels of India Pvt Ltd is now venturing into other areas of the travel and tourism business. In its attempts to meet the growing demands of the current travel scenario, the company has decided to focus on corporate travel business in a big way. In fact the company has also declared this year as the year of the corporate.

At present the company has 26 IATA approved offices spread throughout India, out of which eight of the offices namely the ones in Bangalore, Mumbai, Kottayam, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai (2 offices) would have a special division dedicated primarily to the corporate travel market. It also plans to add four more offices in this year.

Speaking about the company's plans and initiatives, K V Abdul Nazar, chairman and managing director, Akbar Travels of India Pvt Ltd, in an exclusive with Express TravelWorld, said, "We are definitely on an expansion route and we do have plans to invest further in other functions of the travel business. Focusing on the corporate market is our priority and we have our strategy in place to enhance the business further."

Apart from the corporate business, plans are also underway to upgrade its online booking site and make it more client friendly. The company is in the process of setting up its dedicated call centre that would be based in Mumbai. "Technology is the key to the success of any business, and travel is no exception. Sensing this, we have decided to invest in technology and hence aim to set up a call centre by 2006 and also further upgrade our travel portal to make it more client friendly. Since the company's inception 25 years ago till date, we have grown from strength to strength and from now on we will be focused on growing the activities of the group further," says Nazar.

Besides this, Akbar Holidays is yet another initiative which the group is planning to expand further.
