Akbar Travels to increase focus on other travel businesses

After consolidating its position as arguably the leading ticketing consolidator
of the country, Akbar Travels of India Pvt Ltd is now venturing into other areas
of the travel and tourism business. In its attempts to meet the growing demands
of the current travel scenario, the company has decided to focus on corporate
travel business in a big way. In fact the company has also declared this year
as the year of the corporate.
At present the company has 26 IATA approved offices spread throughout India,
out of which eight of the offices namely the ones in Bangalore, Mumbai, Kottayam,
Ahmedabad, Baroda, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai (2 offices) would have a special
division dedicated primarily to the corporate travel market. It also plans to
add four more offices in this year.
Speaking about the company's plans and initiatives, K V Abdul Nazar, chairman
and managing director, Akbar Travels of India Pvt Ltd, in an exclusive with
Express TravelWorld, said, "We are definitely on an expansion route and
we do have plans to invest further in other functions of the travel business.
Focusing on the corporate market is our priority and we have our strategy in
place to enhance the business further."
Apart from the corporate business, plans are also underway to upgrade its online
booking site and make it more client friendly. The company is in the process
of setting up its dedicated call centre that would be based in Mumbai. "Technology
is the key to the success of any business, and travel is no exception. Sensing
this, we have decided to invest in technology and hence aim to set up a call
centre by 2006 and also further upgrade our travel portal to make it more client
friendly. Since the company's inception 25 years ago till date, we have grown
from strength to strength and from now on we will be focused on growing the
activities of the group further," says Nazar.
Besides this, Akbar Holidays is yet another initiative which the group is planning
to expand further.
