Lufthansa Introduces In-Flight Culinary Initiatives
Neeti Chopra - New Delhi
The German flagship carrier Lufthansa, that operates 32 direct
flights a week to India, has announced the launch of a series of in-flight culinary
initiatives on outbound flights from India. These initiatives will assist passengers
in choosing the right meal on board.
Based on customer feedback from across the five Indian destinations
served by Lufthansa, the new initiatives include the enhancement of existing
meals, a meal brochure designed to advise passengers on the range and the process
for ordering and
the introduction of the Star Chef concept in India.
Hemant Oberoi, Chef de Cuisine, currently with Taj Hotels Mumbai, is the first
Star Chef from India. He will create special meals to be served to business
and first class passengers from September. While the Delhi-Munich and Delhi-Frankfurt
flights are already offering its customers the Star Chef's menu, it will be
introduced in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai from September 2005.
Werner Heesen, GM (Passenger Sales) India and director for South Asia at Lufthansa,
said, "India is one of Lufthansa's fastest growing markets and we understand
and acknowledge the diverse culinary tastes of our Indian passengers."
India is the first country in the Lufthansa network to provide a meal brochure
to its passengers. According to Heesen, the carrier plans to increase the frequency
from the present 32 to 38 flights a week.
