‘New And Innovative Products Being Introduced Every Year Indicates Better Revenue’

Rupen Vikamsey, CEO, Orbit Tours and Trade Fairs in conversation with Lakshmi Subramanian talks about the ‘All India Products 2005’ roadshow and its relevance to South India

What was the main purpose behind the All India Products 2005 roadshow that was held in Coimbatore?

Outbound travel from the South is very large. Domestic short haul traffic is exploding and people are looking at long haul itineraries in India. To cater to this growing traffic, we have a total of five offices in the South, in addition to 80 travel partners who also promote our products in Southern India. Also with new and more innovative products being introduced each year, there has been an increase in passenger growth graph, thereby indicating better revenues each year. Considering these factors, the objective of the roadshows was to introduce to our exclusive travel partners the innovative travel products of the year 2005. All our travel partners belong to a special partner club of the company called Orbit Prestige Alliance Club that has over 300 members spread across the country.

How beneficial was the roadshow in the South?

Chennai and Coimbatore, our major markets in Southern India have responded tremendously to our roadshow. The number of travel partners who attended was much beyond our expectations. These two markets are very responsive to newer and better travel products, as the clientele here are very quality conscious and
educated.

Who is your primary target group? Why?

When it comes to holidays, our primary customer target group is the discerning quality conscious traveller looking for a holiday that allows them freedom to travel. However, when it comes to business travel, our primary target group is the customer who wants a quality package.

What are your major marketing and promotion strategies?

Our major strategy is direct personalised marketing, revolving around customer relationship as well as distribution via our travel partners.

Could you elaborate on the exclusive family holiday package in Europe?

We have come up with a novel concept wherein a passenger can experience scenic Europe in the comforts of a private chauffeured Mercedes Van. The hotels selected are in proximity to the city centre and the package has the option of Indian meals, even for the pure Jain vegetarian.
