Uday Samudra To Open Two New Hotels

Jyoti Koul - New Delhi

Uday Samudra (UDS), which has a four-star leisure property Uday Samudra Beach Hotel in Kovalam, is coming up with two hotels in Alapuzha in Kerala and Goa. The hotels will be operational by 2006. The company, which is the hotel wing of RR Holiday Homes, is investing Rs 14 crore in both the projects.

While UDS has identified an existing property in Goa, it has bought two-and-a-half acres of land at Alapuzha to build the hotel. These ventures are expected to be three-star hotels. According to Raja Gopal Iyer, vice president, UDS, "We are expanding in order to cash in on the demand supply gap. The Kovalam hotel is already sold out for the next year. But in order to capitalise on the hospitality boom in India, we need to expand in a big way." He refused to divulge any more details on the venture like number of rooms, sourcing of funds etc. "Currently, we are in the process of finalising the details of these projects," he said.

Meanwhile, 45 rooms and new facilities are being added to the Kovalam property. At present, Uday Samudra Beach Hotel offers 93 rooms, multi-cuisine restaurants and well-equipped conference halls besides health and recreational facilities. The property will get a total facelift and will be ready with the new look by October this year.
