Clarks Amer Jaipur Promotes International All Women Polo Match

Jaipur, the historic Pink City, is the home ground of the game of Polo. Hotel Clarks Amer has been a keen patron of the game for three years now. The last Polo season was named The Clarks Amer Polo Season 2003. For three consecutive years, the hotel has sponsored the Clarks Amer Gold Cup for the International All Women Polo Matches that are becoming the highlight of the polo season in Jaipur. Hotel Clarks Amer has been able to define the glamorous game in a most novel way by inviting the women Polo Players of the world to play in the home grounds of the game. The executive director of The Clarks Group of Hotels and president of the Rajasthan Hotel and Restaurant Association, Apurv Kumar says, “The bonhomie between man and animal has a unique appeal for all. Besides, the tourism industry in Rajasthan should not totally rely on the appeal of age-old historic sites. It should evolve newer ways to lure domestic and foreign tourists.”

The variations to the game were elephant Polo, camel Polo, water and cycle Polo. The latest trend though is the all women Polo. The Clarks Amer Jaipur Gold Cup Women Polo Tournament drew quite a lot of press reviews alongside sports lovers because of its novelty.

The nine women Polo players were divided in to three teams with three women and one-man player. The matches were played on the basis of Robin round. The three teams were - the Clarks Amer team, the Le Meridian team and the Thunderbolt team. Theresa King, Cathy Edmundson and Pam Gleason along with Vicky Nihalani (male member) played for the Clarks’ Team. After the initial draw between Clarks and the Le Meridian team, the Thunderbolt team won the Clarks Gold cup. In a further variation of the game the same teams played the Elephant Polo and this time round triple goals by Theresa King (Washington) won the Le Meridian Cup for Clarks.
