ET&T Staff - Mumbai

The e-Travel and the e-commerce business unit of Amadeus, has won the ‘Worlds Leading Internet Booking Engine Technology Provider’ award at the annual World Travel Awards ceremony.

The World Travel Awards was conceived in 1993 to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in the world's travel and tourism industry. Eight technology providers had been nominated for the award. Amadeus e-Travel and the other nominees appeared on the 2.5 million ballot forms that were sent to more than 150,000 travel executives and 80,000 travel agencies worldwide. The number of ballots returned was up by 18 per cent from 2003 and competition was fierce as companies battled to secure the prestigious winner's status.

e-Travel, the 'world's leading Internet booking engine technology provider', powers 60 airlines including Air Canada, Air France, Iberia, Qantas, and agencies such as Opodo.

Jérôme Destors, director, suppliers and agencies, Amadeus e-Travel said, “I am delighted that the World Travel Awards recognised e-Travel Planitgo to be the global leading e-commerce solution. I take this award not only to acknowledge our significant technology investment programmes in operational excellence, merchandising, and servicing, but also to highlight the resulting business outcome of our airline and agency customer base in terms of growth, profit, and end-user loyalty.”
