‘We Definitely Plan To Work More Closely With The Travel Trade’

We are certainly not going to sit on our laurels but would and double our efforts emphasises Manoharan, director, Tourism Malaysia - India (winner of the ‘Best International Tourism Board’). Excerpts from an interview with Charmaine Fernz

What does the award mean to you?

The award is a recognition for Tourism Malaysia and the efforts put in by the organisation for the Indian market since the last four years. It makes us proud to think that we have been chosen from among some of the most popular tourism boards in India.

What according to you was the secret of your success?

The complete support from the entire travel industry be it travel agents, tour operators, media or even the airlines. Without their support, all our efforts would have been a failure. This award is a perfect example of concerted efforts. It is undoubtedly the key players in the industry who have made Malaysia a destination to reckon with. To add to that our branding has been outstanding.

How do you plan to retain this success?

We are certainly not going to sit on our laurels but would work even harder and double our efforts for the next year. We want to make Malaysia - The Destination - which certainly means there is still a lot of work to be done. This would be reflected in our number of tourists who visit the destination.

What are Tourism Malaysia’s future plans?

We definitely plan to work more closely with the travel trade in our tourism promotion efforts. More value for money offers and product diversification would be on the cards for the coming year.
