VUSACOM Launches Its Gujarat Chapter
Charmaine Fernz - Mumbai
In an effort to augment tourist figures to the US, the Visit
USA Committee's India's Chapter recently launched its Gujarat Chapter. The launch
function had A K Bhargava, director general of police - Gujarat state inaugurate
the Chapter in the presence of Richard Rothman, US trade commissioner and consul,
Lalit Sheth, chairman and Arun Hatangadhi, vice-chairman, VUSACOM India Chapter.
The president of the Chapter, Joseph D'Couto in an exclusive to Express Travel
& Tourism, talks about his plans. "Our primary objective in the beginning
for the Chapter would be to promote the US as a destination. This would include
disseminating information on transportation facilities like the Grey Hound and
Amtrax, provide best deals and create the necessary hype. Apart from this, we
also plan to conduct training courses, hold special events and follow the same
pattern followed by the Mumbai Chapter."
Elaborating further, D'Couto added, "It is a known fact
that Gujaratis love to travel and they are also considered one of the biggest
spenders in travel. In that context, we would help them find the right options
when traveling to the US and explore beyond the known de stinations as there
is whole gamut of options available. We would provide them with investment as
well as travel and tour options as this community is one of the biggest revenue
generators for a lot of industries."
In conclusion, he added that, "At present we have 40 members, which we
plan to increase to approximately 80 members by the end of the year."
