In Brief
Delta To Launch New Flight From Mumbai To US Via Frankfurt
In Nov
In response to strong customer demand, Delta Air Lines recently announced that
it will be offering an additional daily flight, effective November 2, 2004 through
March 1, 2005, between Mumbai and the US via Frankfurt, Germany. This daily
seasonal service will give the airline's customers from India a second option
to fly to Europe and the US, as it complements the airline's existing year round
service from Mumbai to New York via Paris/Charles de Gaulle airport, France.
In addition, customers from India can connect to numerous code-share services
offered by the SkyTeam alliance partners within Europe. "Delta is continuing
to see strong international growth generally, with our airplanes full and customer
demand proving high to some of the most wide-ranging points we serve. We are
launching this seasonal flight in response to heavy demand for service between
India, Europe and the US. Through our own service and through that of our code-share
and alliance partners, Delta remains committed to providing customers with service
to and from the key destinations," said Dieter Hofele, general manager,
India.
The daily non-stop flight from Mumbai will be launched with a Boeing 767-300ER
aircraft that has the capacity to carry up to 204 passengers in a two-class
configuration featuring the BusinessElite service.
Singapore To Build First New Terminal For Low Cost Carriers
In Asia By 2006
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will build a terminal for the
exclusive use of low cost carriers (LCC) at Changi Airport. The terminal, located
along Airport Boulevard, is expected to be ready by early 2006. CAAS' decision
to proceed with the building of the low cost terminal was based on an agreement
signed with Tiger Airways representing the airline's commitment to operate from
the new terminal. The low cost terminal will be built in a modular fashion,
taking into consideration the needs of the carriers using the terminal. The
low cost terminal will have an initial handling capacity of 2.7 million passengers
a year. There is scope for further expansion should more carriers want to use
the terminal. While a key consideration is to keep operating costs low, it does
not mean that the low cost terminal will offer no services. For example, there
will be a shuttle bus service to link passengers to Changi Airport's existing
terminals, and vice versa. Services and facilities such as money changers, duty-free
shopping, and food and beverage outlets, will also be available.
