Travancore Heritage: A Touch Of History

A long time ago, life in Kerala was one with nature. And, in nine acres of land atop a 120 ft. high cliff, vintage Kerala comes to life. A 150-year-old palace, and a group of age old Kerala houses in timber are reconstructed among the coconut trees and greenery all around. You will enjoy the royal ambience of an enlightened era blending with the sophistication of luxury. One can try the food at the restaurant, Open House, a structure with no windows and no walls, except for some arches and carved stone pillars to hold the 150 years old decorated timber roof of a Chettinad house. There is even an eighty-seater conference hall in case you need a facility like this.

The wood house may be a century old architectural marvel. Yet it is truly beautiful and romantic. Every room in every cottage is air conditioned and tastefully furnished with medieval furniture. The private pools in the few private pool mansions are walled on all sides and open up to the sky. Some even have garden baths and backyard lawns for sun bathing. A perfect setting for a memory that honeymooners will cherish for all their lives. The magic of the east perfectly blends here with the comforts of the west. The bedrooms are cozy and the furnishings dapper. The garden bathrooms in a few cottages are a specialty in their own right. They are open to the sky and yet are as private as the indoor ones. So private that you would probably love to spend most of your time staying inside. Facilities like Cable TV, Telephone, 24 hour running hot and cold water and coffee making machines in every cottage make life more relaxed in this 65-room resort. The Beach Grove is the new option they have for those who want to be on the beach all the time. This new block, on the beach at the bottom of the 120 foot cliff, has 20 of the most modern rooms facing the sea. An elevator is available so that the level difference is not a matter of concern for you. It has a touch of sophistication apart from the tradition and luxury that oozes in every little corner of this block. And between the Beach Grove and the sea, you have Ocean Grill - our beachside restaurant. It has a coconut - leaf thatched roof and is known for its seafood specialties.

The soft white sands will attract you to the beach for sure. It is ideal for beach volleyball. The beach in front of the Beach Grove is 200 metres wide during the season and extends to a long stretch of about seven kilometres up to Poovar. Catamarans - the country fishing boats, which are three logs tied together in the shape of a boat, dot the beach at times. The land is beautiful and romantic and its people, warm and honest. Come, explore a new culture, tradition and heritage.
