Travel Booms Despite Elections

Elections this year coincided with the summer holidays, the phase that usually heralds the movement of Indian tourists to various parts of the world and exotic destinations. Are the elections really going to effect the peak outbound season, Anupama Anand finds out...

A random survey with outbound agents and forward bookings has indicated that, this year will be a bumper year not only for destinations like Europe and South East Asia but also for the Far East, Australia, New Zealand and also South Africa.

Ranjit Vig, managing director CAAIR Travels Ltd

“The outbound travel industry is booming and the number of Indian tourists travelling abroad this year will outshine the numbers of last year and I doubt these general elections are going to in anyway hamper the vacations plans for this season.”

Manoj Saraf, managing director, Gainwell Enterprises Pvt Ltd

“The outbound season this year looks so good that I expect it will surpass all our old records. I do not think that these general elections will have any impact on the coming vacations season because people have planned their travel well in advance."

Amith Seth, executive director, Pearl International

"The general elections is not going to affect the coming outbound season as the market is already on an upswing. We already have heavy bookings in advance for both leisure and business."
