Mas Enterprises Diversifies Into Vanilla Plantation
Mas Enterprises Ltd was formed in the year 1982 as a partnership
firm and later converted to a public limited company that has its registered
office at Vandanmedu, Idukki District, Kerala. Currently the company has diversified
business activities in the fields of cardamom plantation, export, auction, manufacturing,
marketing and trading of agro-based food products like curry powders, tea and
coffee powder. The company successfully trades and distributes Agri inputs such
as organic manure, chemical fertilisers, pesticides, bio fertilisers, plant
growth regulators, sprayers, pump sets, sprinklers & drip irrigators. The
company has its own plantation to the extent of 750 acres in Kerala producing
cardamom pepper and coffee.
They are in the process of developing about 200 acres of vanilla plantation
in order to supplement the core area of operation, MAS has floated subsidiaries
which are involved with tourism (leisure hotels and resorts) manufacture of
agro inputs, tea production, food parks etc. The turnover of the group stood
at Rs 12,288 lakh during the year 2002 - 2003.
Their FMCG division markets curry powder, tea, coffee, and all types of spices
in consumer packets all over India and abroad. Their export division received
awards and recognition from the Spices board, government of India, for excellent
performance regularly. The division has its factories at Bodinaykanoor in Tamilnadu
and Kurichi in Kerala. The factories have state of the art technologies and
very high hygiene and safety environment matching international standards. As
a part of their drive to maintain highest standards in quality, safety and hygiene,
they have implemented all measures in these areas as per the guidelines of Kerala
Bureau of Industrial Promotion, government of Kerala. In recognition of this
and also as an approval of all quality standards of Kerala Bureau of Industrial
Promotion has granted them the HACCP Certification. They are the first company
to get this award in the field of curry powder in Kerala. The award was presented
to the managing director T T Jose by C J Jose IAS, chairman, Spices Board in
a simple function presided by their chairman R Kumerasan on April 17, 2004 at
Hotel Harbour View Residency Cochin.
The award for Cardamom was received by their chairman, R Kumaresan, and the
award for curry powder was received by their vice -chairman, N Murugesan.
