Winner’s Speak - Andhra Pradesh Tourism Dept

Chandana Khan, principal secretary to government, Andhra Pradesh (AP) tourism department, government of AP, in conversation with Reema Sisodia, highlights the state's tourism success and its future plans and promotional activities

What does the award mean to you?

Andhra Pradesh Tourism has bagged Galileo Express Travel and Tourism Award for 'Best Technology Practices'. This recognises our efforts in the best usage of Information Technology and reconfirms the fact that the State is ahead in application of the Best Information and Communication Technology in Tourism. The utilisation of IT and communication systems has given impetus to tourism by way of enhancing the appeal of tourism product or service, improved information and distribution network and easy accessibility.

What according to you was the secret of your success?

The success goes to the experts, dedicated teamwork and technology savvy officials, who have dynamically incorporated technology as a part of the system.

How do you plan to retain the success bestowed on the organisation?

Information Technology (IT) and Tourism are inseparable. Tourism has to forge ahead and IT and Communication adds momentum to the drive and hence sustainability is automatically ensured. However, the emphasis should always be on upgrading and applying the latest value added services.

What the company's future plans?

AP Tourism will continue to incorporate the best in Information and Communication Technology in all components of tourism. More customer centric services and systems will be added to stay ahead and satisfy the ever-changing priorities of traveller. The website will be made more dynamic with latest information and services, multi language versions and more links to tourism related websites. The other stakeholders will be encouraged to use Information Technology in their respective field of operations and all these will result in improved tourism promotion.
