Winner’s Speak - The Orchid

Vithal Kamat (Green Hotelier), chairman and managing director, The Orchid-An Ecotel Hotel, in conversation with Reema Sisodia speaks about the group's success and what's in store for the company in the future

What does the award mean to you?

The Orchid has always striven toward excellence. When it started its operations six years ago, it ventured into an area which no hotel had dreamed about. The idea was to create a niche for itself in the hotel industry. The fact that GALILEO and Express Travel & Tourism, two of the most prestigious names in the hospitality industry have acknowledged this effort makes us doubly proud of our initiatives.

What according to you is the secret of your success?

The formula for success is very simple yet uncommon. For a company or an individual to succeed, the three D's of Determination, Dedication and Discipline are of paramount importance. If everyone takes his or her task seriously and does it with sincerity there is no reason why the organisation cannot achieve the desired results.

How do you plan to retain this success?

The key to achieve continuous success is to maintain the results over a period of time. The 3 D's of Determination, Dedication and Discipline have to be maintained by everyone in the organisation. Every individual should work towards the common goal. The motivation of the employees has to be kept high with appropriate rewards and appreciation of the efforts taken. If the employees of the company - everyone from the doorman to the vice president is satisfied with the organisation, the results will be automatically achieved.

What are the company's future plans?

This is a very exciting time for the Kamat Group of Hotels. With the success of The Orchid, a lot of other ventures are being planned all over the country. Within some time we plan to have a base in South India. With the tourism industry looking up and the financial market touching a never before high this is the right time for us to cash in on the upswing in the economy. For all of us at The Orchid Group, the sky is the limit.
