Bekal House Boats: A Class Apart

Bekal House Boats are one of the few luxury houseboat operators in the Malabar region of North Kerala. They are into arranging of cruises and other leisure time activities along the picturesque rivers of Kasaragod district. According to K C Irshad, managing director, "Ever since we embarked on this venture, we have been striving hard to meet all the needs of our guests from various parts of the world."

The houseboats are equipped with all modern facilities in a traditional manner, having beautifully furnished spacious bedrooms with solar lights, fan, music and attached toilets in each boat along with a living-cum-dining area and front side decks. A full-fledged kitchen with a cook, guide-cum-steward and two boatmen as crew. One can also savour authentic Keralite food onboard as well as other seafood specialties. The luxury boat boasts a conference/banquet hall, dance floor and deck with a capacity for 50 passengers. Large groups can also be accommodated including corporate meetings and conference, small birthday and wedding anniversary get together and other special occasions. They also arrange special packages to schools, colleges and groups.

Amongst the latest developments are the special packages floated this season that includes three night four day house boats cruises (full on board accommodation with breakfast lunch and dinner), visiting tourist destination of north Malabar and Ayurvedic body message for three days, a bon-fire dinner with music on an island.

En route facilities arranged on the houseboats include fishing, swimming, sunset and sunrise, visiting monkeys island and nearby islands, sea mouths and temples. Watch toddy tapping, coir making, Beedi making, watch martial art forms- Theyyams, Kalari etc.
