Thomas Cook Offers Education Packages

Jyoti Koul - New Delhi

In a move to tap the increasing outbound student segment, Thomas Cook is promoting destinations, popular for their universities and education. The travel company, is providing counselling to students on various fronts like basic destination information, visa, currency, foreign exchange, main educational institutions, etc.

Recently, Thomas Cook participated in Education India 2003 held in Delhi. The company sponsored country-wise seminars providing in depth information on overseas education scenario and cultural issues in major educational destinations worldwide. The experts from the company highlighted issues of paramount importance to students like employment opportunities while studying abroad, grants and loans, course options, quality of life and cost of living.

Since the student travel segment, remains undeterred from travelling abroad despite global turbulances, many travel companies are finding it lucrative to tap this segment. Therefore, selling educational packages has become eminent. Partnerships between educational institutions and the travel companies are the order of the day. Many travel houses are offering special student package. Besides promoting universities as an additional product.

However, Thomas Cook is laying lot of emphasis on money matters such as foreign exchange.

There are various agencies offering solutions like sending money to a foreign university through foreign currency drafts or wire transferring. Taking a cue, Thomas Cook offers drafts in 7 currencies including GB Pounds, Euro, US dollars, Swiss Francs, Canadian and New Zealand dollars as students need to regularly remit funds in foreign currency for various reasons like college applications, tuition fees and living expenses.

For increased security, drafts are cleared through the banking channels. The company offers global wire transfer of funds in major currencies and has a network of offices and correspondent banks from where foreign exchange can be collected across the counter.

The agency also offers Scholar care insurance which includes medical insurance, travel inconvenience insurance and in addition offers covers for study interruption, sponsor protection and worldwide assistance services.
