Mumbai’s Electric Parade Tantalises All

Ram Chopra, the recently retired regional director, Indiatourism, Mumbai organised an Electric Parade on January 19, 2003 with much pomp as his parting gift to the city. Chagan Bhujbal, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra flagged off the parade, which started from Nariman Point and terminated at Girgaum Chowpatty. The Parade had floats showcasing the cultural traditional and attractions of different states in the country. Participants included the state government of Tamil Nadu, Temples of Rameshwaram and Kanayakumari, Kerala showcasing ayurveda and backwaters, Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli presenting a Tarpa dance by Warli tribe along with an Eco Friendly Float, photo display by Taj Group of Hotels on the occasion of their centenary celebrations, Fariyas Hotel presented a float with the theme ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan and Jai Vigyan’, an illuminated antique road train by Essel World Amusement Park and Water Kingdom, floral float with traditional shehnai players by Garha Tours, Kuoni Tours, national integration by Cottage Industries Exposition (CIE) and festivals of India by the Confederation of Tourism Professionals and Incredible India by the Indiatourism office featured in the parade.
