KTB To Appoint Marketing Development Representative In Mumbai

Sheetal Munshaw - Nairobi

Plans To Start Bureaus In Other Emerging Markets

Realising the significance of India as an emerging market for inbound traffic into Kenya, the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has recently appointed a marketing development representative for KTB in Mumbai. The official will operate from the Kenya Airways (KQ) branch in Mumbai and will work closely with KQ in promoting the destination.

“We have already identified the person and appointed him. However, paper work and certain approvals are in process, which should be soon completed. We hope that by the year-end the official should be in a position to commence operations. We also have in the pipeline, plans of operating a fully functional KTB bureau in Mumbai.

However, it is currently only in the conceptualisation stages. Tourism is the leading industry today in Kenya and is a tremendous revenue generator. We have a great tourism product, besides being home to the big five. We also boast an unspoilt culture in its most authentic form. We also have modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art facilities that make it a phenomenal destination. We have also identified important markets and are currently diversifying our tourism products. We realise hence that there is a need for our presence in markets that are of great significance to the country’s tourism, India being one of the most dominant in Asia,” explained Joanne Mwangi, head of marketing, Kenya Tourist Board.

However, at this point in time, the MDR will proactively promote the destination and facilitate all industry players in doing the same. In the meanwhile Kenya Airways will remain committed to their endeavour in establishing Kenya’s position as a leading destination.
