Doubles Budget To Rs 11.88 Cr

In
an attempt to renew its commitment towards comprehensive
development of tourism in the Union Territory, the Pondicherry
government has enhanced its recent budgetary allocation
for tourism to Rs 11.88 crore, an almost 100 per cent
increase over last years outlay of Rs 6.18 crore.
Speaking to Express Travel & Tourism, G Malar Kannan,
director, department of tourism, government of Pondicherry,
revealed, Recognising the immense potential that
tourism holds both in terms of revenue generation and
creating new employment opportunities, the government
of Pondicherry has announced a two-fold increase in
the budget outlay. The Budget has also spelled out concrete
initiatives towards upgrading existing tourism infrastructure
in the Union Territory.
The
budget will certainly prove a shot in the arm and will
go a long way in promoting and marketing Pondicherry
as an heritage destination of sorts. This apart, it
is also proposed to set up a land bank, where-in private
entrepreneurs will be encouraged to set up hotels, resorts,
theme parks etc with the government providing requisite
land as an joint equity, divulged Kannan.
