Yercaud To Allocate Rs 8 Crore For Neoteric Tourism Projects

Yercaud is a virgin destination largely banking on natural beauty

In a bid to augment the average stay of tourists at Yercaud, Tamil Nadu’s lesser known hill station, Tamil Nadu Tourism has allocated a sum of Rs 8 crore towards tourism development.

Commenting on the issue, A Ismail, tourist officer, Tamil Nadu Tourism, Salem said, “We realise that we can attract tourists to Yercaud but are not very successful in retaining their interest for more than two to three days. This can be attributed to the fact that Yercaud is a virgin destination largely banking on natural beauty. The hill station lacks entertainment and amusement centres and facilities that add value to a holiday experience. In order to remedy the same, we have identified 48 acres of land to open amusement parks. The first such project initiated by the government is valued at around 40 lakh and will have a toy train as its striking feature.”

Ismail further added that amongst the new projects in the pipeline is a botanical garden, valued at Rs 7.5 crore, which is expected to be initiated in the coming months. We have a few sites for tourists to visit, but with a huge botanical garden and amusement park, we are confident of increasing a tourists stay by at least a day to start with.
