Keeping in accordance to its vision of making tourism a main stay of its economy, the Uttaranchal government along with its tourism ministry is promoting and marketing its leading tourist destination Nainital and Mussorie as an ‘all year round tourist destination’ both domestically and internationally.

Commenting on the initiative and future plans, N N Prasad, secretary, government of Uttaranchal, department of tourism, culture, sports and youth welfare, revealed, “Tourism is a sector of the state, which has tremendous potential to grow extensively. Nainital and Mussorie are the two most prominent tourists areas of the state, this is evident from the tourist inflow to the areas. However, the government firmly believes that, if an aggressive promotional and marketing campaign is initiated, the current tourist inflow would rise up by approximately 20-30 per cent. More so, the main vision behind the current endeavour is to highlight that tourism within the two areas are not restricted to seasons, but is most promisingly an ‘all year round tourist destination’To bring its efforts to a fruitful and successful position, the Uttaranchal tourism ministry is currently working with some leading hotels, tour operators and travel agents. The government is also opening up avenues to increase private sector participation through sops and incentives for tourism-related infrastructure development in Nainital and ussorie.
