The recently concluded India Travel Mart (ITM) 2002, a three-day international travel and tourism exhibition held in Chandigarh, evoked a substantial response from visitors of Northern India. The Punjab and Chandigarh regions has tremendous potential for holding various tourism events all year round. These events generate a lot of direct and indirect employment opportunities and through this multiplier effect, the economy will rise to a new height, affirmed Ashwani Sekhri, Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister. The event was organised by Global Management, New Delhi.

ITM 2002 which was the second consecutive show to be held in Chandigarh proved to be a major success in terms of spreading awareness on various tourism products and services available in the market. The travel mart provided a platform for several travel and tourism communities to tap the tourist potential in a focussed manner. The exhibition also received a positive response from trade visitors as well as the corporate sector.

About 50 national and international participants set up stalls providing necessary information. The exhibition also attracted visitors from the Northern states like Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi and Rajasthan.
