To Enhance Delhi’s Stance As A Long Haul Destination

Romesh Sabharwal

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Corporation (DTTDC) will be joining hands to promote Delhi as ‘the destination’. The move is an initiative by the association to involve itself in destination promotions and promote Delhi as a tourist hub. The Capital has tremendous potential but has been reduced to a transit destination due to some lack in marketing efforts.

According to Romesh Sabharwal, chairman, DTTDC, “To promote Delhi as a ‘the destination’ IATO’s participation is a realisation towards the potential of the state and the associations effort to come forward and help promote tourism. We welcome all those tourism bodies who require our support to promote any aspect of Delhi’s tourism. However for the Capital’s betterment, we are planning to launch the tourism scouts, for which IATO will support us on this front. We would also seek the support of other associations. There is lot of scope for both IATO and DTTDC to work together and develop a much better product.”

Maharaj S Wahi

DTTDC is currently in the process of chalking out an aggressive marketing and promotional strategy for the Capital. The corporation will underline the areas where it needs the concrete support of IATO.

Commenting further Maharaj S Wahi, president, IATO added, “The association is open to any such initiatives for tourism promotion. Our support to DTTDC in promoting Delhi as a hub is a step towards tourism promotion of the entire country. I believe the Capital of any country should act as a gateway to that country. It has to be a hub and in India’s case Delhi has lot of potential to attract tourists and act as a long-haul destination.”
