Jharkhand Accords ‘Industry Status’ To Tourism
Savio Rodrigues /Mumbai

Realising the potential of ‘tourism’ in the development of a state as well its revenue generating prowess, the Jharkhand government has recently accorded ‘industry status’ to its tourism sector.

Commenting on the impetus provided by the state government to the tourism sector, Babu Lal Marandi, chief minister, Jharkhand, revealed, “In order to create a strong presence in both the domestic and international tourism platform, the government felt that it is necessary to provide the tourism industry and its players with a level and competitive playground endowed with tax concessions and varied sops, in order to ensure that entrepreneurs invest extensively into tourism related infrastructure development. More so, though different from most states, we consider tourism to be a powerful industry not just a sector, therefore the accordance of ‘industry status’

The state government through the ‘industry status’ firmed up its intention to give a boost to tourism sector by attracting higher investment in the areas with tourist potential and to generate employment opportunities through combined efforts of governmental agencies and the private sector.

More so, the government has decided to allot land for the development of hospitality and tourism related projects. Also in ensuring that promoters look towards the state as a viable option, the government is working on improving the current infrastructure facilities and open doors for the private sector to play a vital part in the infrastructural development both tourism related as well social infrastructure.

“The government shall endeavour to provide land and other facilities at concessional rates for this purpose,” asserted Mrigendra Pratap Singh, minister for finance, commercial taxes and national savings, Jharkhand.
