Speaking
to Express Travel & Tourism, Hans-Peter Doser, general
manager, Indian subcontinent, SwissAir, said, We
are a cautious company, one of the first steps we would
like to have is initiate operations to south India.
The Swiss government has repeatedly asked for negotiations
with the Indian government with a clear aim to enlarge
the possibilities to offer air-services in to the southern
sectors. Due to our persistent approach, the Indian
government has agreed to meet us for negotiations in
the second half of the current year. If the talks finally
come through, we will shortly be extending our services
to the southern market.
He further added that, The market potential in
South India is very good and highly productive. This
was also substantiated by the extensive market research,
we conducted earlier. Based on the research, we have
narrowed down to three destinations Bangalore, Chennai
and Hyderabad. The way it looks today, Bangalore is
the front-runner in our priorities. For us, the idea
would be to commence with three flights a week, and
gradually increase, as the demand increases over the
years. We are keen to have the flights operational in
the existing airport in Bangalore, so as to have a smooth
transition later on when the new international airport
becomes operational.
The airline has already nominated Bangalore-based Aviation
Travels P Ltd as its general sales agent (GSA) for south
India.
