Goa Targets 100% Increase In Charter Flights Throws open airport for 18 hours
Raadia Mukadam /Mumbai

To uplift staggering inbound numbers, the Department Of Tourism (DoT), Goa, has declared that its airport at Dabolim, which is under the control of the naval authorities will now be operational for 18 hours including night landings. Though the exact date has not been specified by the ministry of civil aviation, it is however learnt that, this endeavour is expected to materialise by early April, in time for the opening of the forthcoming season.

N Suryanarayana, director of tourism, Goa, revealed, “The department of tourism has been the motivating factor in orchestrating this endeavour, by taking up the matter with the ministry of civil aviation, government of India. This move will not only enhance the number of domestic flights operating, but is also expected to substantially multiply, the number of inbound charters into Goa, catapulting them from the current 450 to at least 900 annually. This will subsequently elevate the tourism industry in Goa.”Suryanarayana further reiterated that, the requisite night landing facilities have already been installed by the naval authorities, at the airport with assistance from National Airport Authority and ministry of civil aviation. “The government has also opened up 120 air traffic control posts in order to facilitate smooth functioning with night landing and take-off operations,” he divulged.
