Mizoram: Botanists Paradise
The Mizos are very musical people, who consider singing the best
form of relaxation after a hard days work. Social Harmony
is another striking feature of the Mizos, in which the cultures
of various tribes in the state co-exist with westernisation.
There is a great scope for tourism in Mizoram with visitors joining
in the song-and-dance in setting of the land of valleys.
The scenic beauty, mild climate and very nature of the Mizos should
pace up tourism in the state.
Song and dance is an integral part of the Mizo lifestyle. Among
the famous Mizo dances, the one which has ladies executing intricate
steps amidst bamboo poles held on the ground by gentlemen is most
familiar. It requires great agility and precise timing.
The state is a paradise for botanists with many kinds of herbs,
wild flowers and orchids. One wonders, if it is part of a great
design that the colours of over 300 kinds of butterflies match
the colours of the birds and traditional dresses of the people.
A special mention should be made of the world-acclaimed Mizoram
shawls. There are also other traditional crafts including a wide
variety of items made with cane and bamboo. The most convenient
form of travel to Mizoram is by air, mainly through Silchar in
Assam. The accommodation in Mizoram is offered by government-run
facilities and small hotels. Entry formalities apply.
